Generosity of Spirit Award

By Stephanie Miller, Marketing Coordinator

November 15th, 2014, marks a very important holiday, National Philanthropy Day. This is a day set aside to celebrate and recognize the contributions that philanthropy has made to our lives and our communities. This year the Association of Fundraising Professionals will be hosting one of the largest celebrations in North America, the 18th Annual National Philanthropy Day and Philanthropy Awareness Week. The purpose of this week long event is to recognize the generosity of Albertans. They will also be honouring seven different philanthropists with a Generosity of Spirit Award for their gifts of time and energy.

This year, Wellspring Calgary nominated Cedarglen Homes for a Generosity of Spirit Award. We had the opportunity to work with Wellspring Calgary in the past, but in 2014 we embarked on a new opportunity to help raise awareness of the wonderful programs that Wellspring offers. With the help of our trades and suppliers, Cedarglen Homes built a home in Auburn Bay where Wellspring Calgary could offer support to Calgary’s south communities. Then in June 2014, we auctioned off the home and donated the full value of the sale, which amounted to $551,000.00, to Wellspring Calgary.

Thanks to Wellspring Calgary’s nomination, along with encouraging letters from the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter, the Alberta’s Children's Hospital and Brookfield Residential, on November 12, 2014 we accepted the Outstanding Small Business Philanthropic Award Honouree. We are excited and humbled to be accepting such a prestigious award. At Cedarglen Homes, we believe that philanthropy is an important and vital way to give back to the community. There are plenty of wonderful causes and organizations to contribute to and we look forward to continuing to find new and exciting ways to do so!

Have a good weekend,
