What Home Style Should I Build and Where?

By Stephanie Miller, Marketing Coordinator

Deciding that it’s time to buy a new home can sometimes be the easy part. Once you’ve decided that you’re ready for a change, it’s time to start asking yourself, “What community do I want to live in?” “How much space do I need?” “What’s my budget?” and “How much time do I want to spend taking care of my home”. Although finding answers to these questions can be daunting, thanks to the wide array of home styles we offer at Cedarglen, we are confident that we can help you find a model in a community that you would be thrilled to call home! Here is a glossary of different types of home styles and where they are being built.

Single Family Home

A single family home is a dwelling that consists of just one home. It is completely separated by open space on all sides from any other structure, except its own garage or shed. These homes tend to have larger properties. They have a minimum of 4’ on either side of the home which gives homeowners more space and privacy. With almost 35 years of experience building single family homes, this is definitely our most popular product we build at Cedarglen Homes. We offer a wide selection of models in each of our communities, to ensure that home buyers can find the plan that best suits their lifestyle.

Where can you find a single family home?

We are currently building single family homes in Calgary’s most coveted south-east communities. We have only 9 lots left in New Brighton (prices starting in the $480’s), we are in our last phase for single family homes in Auburn Bay (prices starting in the $550’s), we are building move-up and semi-estate homes in the stunning community of Riverstone of Cranston (prices starting in the $620’s) and we’ve just started a new phase in Walden (prices starting in the $480’s). Don’t miss out on your last chance to build a single family home in some of these communities that are quickly filling up!

Zero Lot Line Homes

A zero lot line home is when one side of the home is built on the property line. This means you have only one side yard which is typically 5’ wide. A zero lot line home can be a more cost-effective way to buy a detached home as you’re buying less land and it can also give buyers the opportunity to build a larger home on a smaller lot. Although there is limited space between homes, having a 5’ wide side yard can create more usable space. The side of the home that is located on the property line is restricted as the home can not have any windows or cantilevers. The Builder must also comply with the Alberta Building Code by fire rating this side of the home.

Where can you find a zero lot line home?

Cedarglen Homes is eager to soon be offering zero lot line product in the community of Auburn Bay. These homes will range between 1600 and 2000 square feet and offer either a single car or double car garage. This will offer a great price point for buyers looking to embrace lakeside living in Auburn Bay! Sales in this newest phase will be available in spring 2016. We are anticipating pricing to start in the mid $400’s. Register here for email updates.

Apartment style Townhomes

Apartment Style Townhomes are individual homes that are placed side-by-side, where one or two walls of each house are shared between adjacent homes. These types of homes are often narrow and multi-storied. There are Home Owners Association (H.O.A.) in place, who are responsible for day-to-day maintenance of exterior and common areas. For these services there are monthly HOA fees.

Apartment style Condos

An apartment style condo is a housing structure that is a part of a bigger multi-unit complex or building. The units are individually owned. The property is managed by an association and not the owner, which means there are monthly condo fees for maintenance of all common areas and any exterior work. A condo owner owns the condo unit but no land.
