I Don't Know How She Does It - Interview with Sandi Fedorchuk
By Stephanie Miller, Marketing Coordinator
This week I had the opportunity to sit down with one of our Design Consultants, Sandi Fedorchuk. We all know Sandi to be an incredibly creative (not to mention healthy) employee who effortlessly transforms our showhomes into every homebuyers dream home. What you may not know is although design is Sandi’s passion, that is not how she started working with Cedarglen Homes.
Originally hired as a part time Sales Associate in the showhome, it has now been 13 years since Sandi started working for Cedarglen. Living in the community of Chaparral, she had visited the showhome so often that finally the Sales Manager knocked on Sandi’s door and offered her a part time position. Once all three of her kids were in school, she started working in the showhome full time. Eventually the showhome hours started affecting the balance of her home life so she transferred over to the office in the Sales Administration department. Of course, knowing how great Sandi is with customers, it wasn’t long before she was sent over to the Liaison department (now known as our Customer Relations Representative). A position I’m sure she was great at as she still fondly remembers the different homeowners she met during her 2 plus years in the department.
It was only once Cedarglen Homes decided to create a Design Consultant team that Sandi was able to use her education and passion for design. Having studied in Winnipeg she continued taking design courses, and has been decorating people’s homes and businesses for years. Her role as a Design Consultant began by assisting with the showhome decorating and helping homeowners finalize their interior selections when they visited our suppliers. A lot has changed since as Sandi now designs all of our showhomes and meets with homeowners in the Cedarglen Homes Design Centre to help them make their interior selections.
Sandi’s daily routine gives a whole new meaning to morning person. Every morning she goes for a run followed by a workout, does house chores (i.e. laundry or dishes) and then drops her daughter off at school... all before 8am! Once she gets to work her day can consist of meeting with homeowners, working on showhomes, updating the Design Centres stock or working on spec homes.
Since Sandi has such an interesting work load, I asked her what projects she’s working on and she did not disappoint! She is currently helping Kingswood Interiors set up their new show room. The huge space will feature numerous kitchens, bathrooms, desk areas and closets to accessorize. Sandi also gave us an inside scoop on the new Riverstone showhomes that will be opening in July 2014. One of the showhomes is a complete revamp of the Huxley! The plan has been revised so the main floor entry way is more open and the ensuite upstairs is unlike anything we’ve done before. Spoiler alert: Expect his and her closets and a whole new his and her sink layout! Of course, the second showhome is the Manning. This plan has been a huge success in the current Riverstone showhome parade but Sandi has changed some things up to create a fresh look. Spoiler alert: Expect to see patterned carpet and herringbone backslash and fireplace facing.
Now for the fun bits! Here are Sandi’s answers to the Favorite Questions:
Favorite Showhome: It has to be the Newbrook V at 187 Auburn Springs BLVD. Sandi immediately felt at home when decorating this showhome.
Favorite Sport: Sandi’s favorite sports are running and football, both NFL (don’t talk to Sandi during the game) and watching her son play over the last 8 years.
Favorite Weekend Activity: Socializing with friends and enjoying a glass of wine.
Favorite Restaurant: The Catch on Stephen Avenue. She loves sea food!
Favorite part about working at Cedarglen: Sandi says that she loves her job; from decorating showhomes to the feeling she gets when she’s helped a home owner design their dream home. Not to mention the people at Cedarglen!
I hope you’ve all enjoyed getting to know a bit more about our Designer extraordinaire, Sandi Fedorchuk!
Have a good weekend,
