30

Well, it's official... I just had my 30th Birthday and it feels like I'm already over the hill. Lately I've found myself saying things I never thought I would say... for example, "why would someone buy new jeans with holes in them?", "what were they thinking calling after 9 o'clock?" and worse yet, "what is a tweet?". Along with a few more wrinkles and the number thirty comes the thought that planning for my financial future is a good idea. My parents always said that real estate is one of the best investments you can make. After all, why pay someone else's mortgage when you could be paying your own!
My husband and I have taken this advice and are looking to purchase our "forever" home in the suburbs. As with most couples our age, we are thinking about starting a family, which makes a yard and a safe community two of the most important things on our wish list. We've focused our search in Auburn Bay, which is a lake community and extremely close to the new hospital in Seton. In addition to the perks of the area, Cedarglen is offering all of the upgrades that we thought would cost a fortune, as they celebrate their own 30th milestone; granite, hardwood, upgraded cabinetry, railing, energy efficiency and the list goes on... my husband was a bit resistant because of the commute, but when he heard how much farther our dollar would go, it was a no-brainer.
So as I leave my twenties behind, I'm looking forward to what the next decade will bring. I can happily abandon apartment living, "Cowboys" and all-nighters for what awaits in the 'burbs. The only thing left to decide is how we're going to spend our weekends at the lake!
